Food

Being on the MC has shifted my attitude towards food. Not in the assumed ‘oh my god free stuff must eat it’ or the ‘we can only afford Mee Goreng’ way that everyone thinks happens (Note: I am speaking only for myself). This year I committed to spending most of my money on good food and eating well.

I’ve spent a lot of time learning new cooking techniques, pouring over cookbooks and just being damn happy at dinner time.

However, something always seems to change when I’m around Robbie. Not that the quality changes, just the quantity. I think it’s peer pressure.

My key Robbie ‘food’ moments have been:

The Fishmarkets. We tackled an ambitious platter, to the detriment of both of us. Pieter had to roll us home . A dangerous, dangerous day.

McRisotto. The creation of McHouse Risotto was created on one of those nights where there’s just nothing left in the fridge. It has since resulted in numerous spin offs and theme songs.

Brazillian Barbeque. I made the stupid decision to sit next to Robbie over dinner. This mostly means being peer pressured into eating far more than necessary. I think we managed the whole plate of chorizo between us…
Robbie’s stomach: Yeah! Nice tag-team!
Jess stomach: You’re not allowed to sit next to Robbie anymore…

Wish me all the best on my adventure with Robbie to Bungalow 8’s ‘All you can eat mussels’ next week.
